Feng Shui is the art and science of living in harmony with our environment. It is a system for arrangement and placement that originated in China and is now widely used to bring prosperity and balance in businesses and homes.
In our fast pace modern world, we are constantly submitted to negative stimuli. Our home, which should be a haven to relax and recharge is often a place where bad energies are at play. Even if we are not conscious of it, inappropriate placement of furniture, bad memories and residual energy in objects and space, clutter, colors, paintings, they all affect our well-being.
What you see everyday will reinforce patterns but if you change the setting, and basically that is what a Feng Shui consultant does, it will create new pathways and allow you to be more in charge, the creator of your life. It is like changing the settings in a computer program.
Each area of your home is related to an area in your life (relationship, money, health —). If one area in your home is blocked in term of energy, you will most likely experience difficulties in the corresponding area of your life. A Feng Shui consultant works with the energy of the space in relation to the energy of its occupants to determine areas of concern and activate places related to the client’s life. If you want to create balance in your home, improve your well-being and release blocks that prevent you to achieve what you want, a Feng Shui consultation will just do that for you.
Misconceptions about Feng Shui
I can do it myself. Well, Feng Shui works so you really need to know what you are doing. In a way, doing it on your own is like self-medication, it can have disastrous outcomes (I have seen it with clients who called me in a panic).
I will have to change the decoration of my home and the furniture. Feng Shui has nothing to do with decoration, we respect your taste and you will not have to change your furniture. You may need to remove certain things like a cracked mirror or to get rid of some clutter.
Feng Shui is all about moving furniture. Often moving furniture is not required in a consultation. A Feng Shui consultant reads the energy of the space using a large array of tools and solutions, does Chinese astrology readings and provides transcendental cures.
Feng Shui is costly. No more than buying a nice dress! And when you see the benefits you get from it and how your life improves, it is pretty cheap.
The Feng Shui consultant does it all. The professional you called for help will tell you what needs to be done but you have to act on it, be open and be willing to change and improve.

Feng Shui for pet owners
I do regular consultations, but my company specializes in Feng Shui for pet owners.
First of all, having a pet is good Feng Shui: it moves the Qi (life energy) in a place and brings a lot of emotional benefits to their owners.
People do not always realize that our animals are highly influenced by their environment: when exposed to bad settings and bad energies, they develop inappropriate behavior or illnesses. I do not work directly with your pets but advise on placement, colors and study the answers to a questionnaire that every pet owner receives prior to a Feng Shui consultation.

Why my clients come to me.
A lot of my clients come to me because they feel stuck in their life or in one area of their life, often they complain that things are not moving and when I see their floor plan and their home, in fact the energy is not flowing. The most common areas that they want to activate are relationships and money.
Others do need support when starting a new business or a new relationship or to help with a new home, whatever they just moved in or to choose a new place.
For pet owners, like others, they want a more harmonious and balanced life, but they have the well-being of their pet at heart and want them to be considered in a consultation. Some come to me because they are concerned with their pet behavior.
Beside Feng Shui consultations, I offer other services such as coaching and Chinese astrology reading. People usually come to me to know if that is a good timing to start a new endeavor or to find out what energies are at play for the year and what they need to do or to avoid to best realize their potential.

Feng Shui tip for dog owners

The commanding position.

The commanding position is essential in Feng Shui. You are in a commanding position when you can see the entrance door, in other words, see who and what is coming. Not being in a commanding position, generates stress and anxiety and can create over controlling behaviors to compensate.

One essential area when you need to be in a commanding position is the bedroom, a place where you spend a lot of time sleeping, thus being in a Yin receptive state. The bed should be placed in a way that you can see the entrance door but not directly facing the door and not against the wall. If there is no space for this kind of set up, you can place a large mirror opposite the bed, which would allow you to see who and what is coming. You can also hang a bell to the door knob.

You, or any member of your family, as pet owner/s, should be in a commanding position but not your animal who should not be in charge and constantly on alert.

If your dog is restless and barks a lot, look at the placement of its bed.

  •     Except in the case of a guarding or a service dog, crates and beds should not be placed in a commanding position or in the mouth of qi (areas located directly in front of the entrance door of any room). They should be placed in a quiet place where the animal can relax. (it also applies for outdoor pens).

Feng Shui and Astrology

When it comes to Chinese astrology, most people are familiar with the Twelve Zodiac Animals. In Feng Shui, we use the Chinese zodiac and also the 9 Star Qi, which is an oldest form of astrology.

Like Feng Shui, The 9 Star Qi system is based on the dynamic between Yin and Yang and was developed from one of the oldest books in the world, the I Ching or Book of Changes. Beside the 9 stars, the energy of the universe present in your birth year, it features a nine-year cycle similar to the passing of the seasons from early spring to late winter. If Feng Shui is dealing with space, the 9 Star Qi is dealing with time. What was the star at the time you were born? What are your potentials? How do you relate to the other stars? Where are you within the nine-year cycle? Is it time to plan, to relax, to initiate changes? A Feng Shui consultant will use this Chinese astrology system to get insights about the energy of the clients and to optimize their space accordingly.

The Lo Shu or magic square

Lo Shu magic square.docxEach star corresponds to a number, which is your primary number or profound nature. You calculate it by adding the numbers of your birth year, then subtract the sum from 11. All years begin on February 4th. For example, people born in 1998 (on or after February 4th) have the number 2. (1+9+9+8=27) (2+7=9) (11-9=2)

Each number is associated with an element (wood, water—), a color or colors in the same spectrum and a season. Roughly, your primary number (which is similar to the Sun sign in Western astrology) takes the qualities of the element. A 2 Black Earth person will be supportive, service-oriented, practical and detail oriented.

* All numbers and elements interact with each other in a supportive or controlling dynamic. Earth will be supported by Fire, drain by Metal, controlled by Wood and is controlling Water.

* Each year, all numbers are moving inside the square following the 9 Star path. This year is a year 9 (2+0+1+8= 11) (1+1+2) (11-2=9) so all 9 Purple Fire persons are in the house 5, which is the Tai Qi. It is a time of fluctuation and change while if you are a 6 White Metal person, this year you are in the house 2, which is a stagnant house and a great time to finalize your projects, get rid of everything that does not serve you anymore and take care of clutter in your house.

If you want to learn more about the 9 Star Qi astrology, I offer workshops and readings. If you want to know in what house you are this year and what kind of energy is at play, leave a comment below with your primary number.

Feng Shui and new year resolutions

Traditionally a new year is a time of renewal and reflexion about the past year. It brings forth a new energy, a desire to change and to let go of what is not serving us anymore. Everyone wants a better life, a better year and so we go setting up resolutions. January finds us resolute but often as the time passes, our fortitude fades and by February we are back to our old habits, our old self facing the same challenges.

HOW FENG SHUI CAN HELP YOU? Here are some pitfalls to avoid and some tips to support you.

  • Follow your heart and align to your truth. Are these resolutions really what you need or are they based on conditioning? Do you really need to loose those extra pounds? To have a baby face at the age of fifty? To get more money? To find a new relationship?

Try to bring consciousness to your resolutions. Introspection, meditation, yoga can help you realign.

  • Beware of negative thoughts. You need to loose weight: ”I am a fat cow! It needs to change!”. You need money: ” I am a loser!” ”I have a stupid job!”. You need a relationship: ”I am all alone, nobody loves me” are all negative thoughts that sabotage your resolution even before you start working on it. It disempowerS you when you need to be in your power as the creator of your own life.

Replace these negative thoughts with positive affirmations and consider any problem or challenge as an opportunity to grow. Face small and big problems in the eyes WITHOUT JUDGMENT. See what you can learn from it. Do not play the victim, practice forgiveness on yourself and others.

  • Set up attainable goals. Do not start a drastic diet or anything that you will not be able to sustain in the long run. One little step at a time will get you a long way.

You can make a list of two or three things to accomplish a week and ACT ON IT. Journaling, wish boards can support you in your endeavor.

  • Live in the present moment. Do not dwell on the past or project a fantasy life into the future. You can only act in the present tense, your power and all opportunities are in the here and now.
  • Sweep away the old year. Get rid of the old stale energy by cleaning your place thoroughly, make it shine. You can also use sage for purification.
  • Move things around and out. You want new and you are surrounded with the old. What you see is what you get. What you project into the world, the world will give it back to you, so change your environment! Your best move will be to hire a professional Feng Shui consultant.

You can always move things around, play with your furniture (beware of always be in the commanding position, which means that you can see the door); get rid of clutter and old clothe in your closets (for example the ones you wore when you were thinner). Give things away. If you want a new relationship, get rid of every object that remind you of old ones. In Feng Shui, we recommend to move 27 objects that have not been moved in the past year to support transformation and completion. And move yourself: exercise, dance to your favored music, play with your animal and your kids. The idea is to move your qi (vital energy), if you do not move your qi, nothing can change.

  • Surround yourself with positive energy and beauty. Your environment can deplete you of your vital energy but people can also drain you. Surround yourself with people who support you, do not call this friend who always reminds you that you are a loser. Bring flowers and plants into your home, listen to peaceful music, use aromatherapy.
  • Remember that life is a journey. Be patient, nothing change overnight and in your journey, you have the right to be where you are. Always be gentle on yourself. Life is a cycle and sometimes is not the time for change, which does not mean you do not have to work on it by getting ready and organize. Look for my next post about Feng Shui and astrology for tips about where you are in your journey.

I wish you all a wonderful new year with the hope that these little tips will support you in your journey forward. Please share your comments, hopes and struggles below.

Feng Shui Consultations For Pet Owners – For Unobstructed Flow Of Positive Energy

Having pets around is good Feng Shui. Everyone knows that. A few years ago, there were not many people who raised pets for this reason. But, this trend is changing fast. More and more people are buying pets not only because they love having pets around and they consider them as their family member or friend, but also they know that pets can bring positive energy inside their place or for that matter help this energy flow to all corners of their home without any obstruction.

But, there is one more thing that pet owners need to know. Having pets is good, but if you want to maximize the benefits, you need to contact experts and get Feng Shui consultations for pet owners.

Feng Shui consultations for pet owners in NYC or in any other location can help you learn what changes you need to make to your place or the space in your house where your pet usually resides, to bring about the positive influence and elevate the whole aura around your surroundings. These tips would normally guide you on placement of certain objects at specific spots in your homes. These tips or changes would be directly or indirectly connected with your pets’ and your own well-being. One should ensure that these are executed as suggested for the desired results.

Your pet is a Feng Shui master

All animals are very sensitive to their environment. While humans have evolved distancing themselves from nature, our companion animals are still in touch with the primeval instincts of their wilder ancestors who relied upon them to survive. All animals will naturally seek  harmony.

Cats are known to be attracted to bad energy and geopathic stress. They can detect these disturbance zones biologically.

It is said that they absorb the negative energy whether it is from electric sources, radiation, sickness, disease, pain, residual energy or geopathic stress to help shield others from its harmful effects. Maybe that is why they do sleep so much! Poor things need to recover from processing for us.

Some as well say that they are able to convert this bad energy into more auspicious one. In any case, just by paying attention to your cat and the way it behaves in your home, you can pinpoint areas of bad energy and act on it since in a long run it can be harmful for your health as well as for the health of your pet.

Dogs are also capable of this biological honing device. However, unlike cats, they don’t absorb negative energy and they avoid staying around it. So if your dog does not like to stay in a certain area or behave in a strange way around a specific place, pay attention, chances are it is an area of bad energy.

Dogs are also sensitive to small variations of the magnetic field.

Among all the animals, they are the most empathic and like to give comfort to people when they are upset.

Dogs and cats in ancient China

As you know, Feng Shui originated in ancient China and if you have read my post pets-in-history  , you already know that dogs and cats were considered in a very different way at that time than nowadays.

Dogs in ancient China

  • China is considered to be the cradle of many dog breeds and in ancient China the dog was one of the most honored and cherished animals. Pekingese dogs were the companions of Chinese emperors and these dogs could only be owned by members of the Chinese Imperial Palace. They were believed to bring luck and dispel evil spirits.
  • The Chinese lion dogs or Foo dogs were the sacred dogs of Asia and were used as statues for protection as they are still used nowadays. (They are still used as figurines or statues in Feng Shui)
  • The  Yellow Emperor made the dog one of the 12 animals of the Chinese Zodiac.

Cats in ancient China

  • Some cats were viewed favorably: the Butterfly cat whose pelt has spots was considered lucky as were cats whose coat was a particular shade of gold, they were thought to attract wealth. Nowadays in all Chinese stores lucky cats can be found and you can also use a piggy bank in the form of a cat for the piggy bank method and even put the picture of a cat in the wealth area.
  • If in ancient Egypt cats were revered as gods ( for example Bastet an Egyptian goddess of love had the head of a cat and to steal or kill a cat became an offence punishable by death), in ancient China things were different.
  • In northern China, the god who protected the harvest, Li-Shou was depicted as a cat.
  • But mainly cats in ancient China were considered to have associations with the darker side of the occult and to be connected with the demons. Like the tiger and the lion, the cat was believed to have the ability to chase away evil spirit.

Modern science discovered that in fact cats are attracted to bad energy areas (see  my post your-pet-is-a-Feng-Shui-master. Tell me what what you think! I would love to hear about your experience in the subject.

Pets in history

    A long time ago

  • The partnership between dogs, cats and humans has a long history. Dogs were domesticated long before cats probably as long ago as 35,000 years. Mainly they were used by men for herding and hunting.
  • Studies show that cats were first domesticated in the Near East about 12,000 years ago at the time of the first agricultural societies in the Middle East Fertile Crescent. They were used to protect crops and grains against rodents.
  • In exchange for they services, those animals got protection, shelter and a reliable food source.

  In the modern time

  • Dogs are trained to render all kind of services from guiding the blinds, helping in natural disasters, police work to detecting drugs and cancer cells.
  • But mainly since the fifties, dogs and cats are used as companions and are now part of our household, a member of our family. As such they have their own health care system, schools, beauty parlors, food industry, funeral sites and so on. They are seek for love and support. We are more related than ever to our pets and that is why they should be considered in a Feng Shui consultation.
